Blip.tv announces opt-in support for the Rick Roll advertising format

Blip.tv prides itself as an innovator in the web video marketplace, and when it comes to shows we pull out all the stops. In order to continue innovating, pushing the limit of technology, thinking outside of boxes, and stepping it up, we’ve gone ahead and beefed up our advertising offering.

As of today, we are introducing a new advertising format that we think you’ll love. To accompany your post-rolls, pre-rolls, and overlays, we’re adding the rick-roll. All blip.tv users can opt-in to the rick-roll by visiting their advertising dashboard, hitting the “Custom Blend” radio option, and finding Rick Roll at the bottom of the page. At a $0 CPM, you may not generate any revenue, but the rick-roll is never going to give you up, or let you down.

UPDATE: We noticed YouTube has also announced selective opt-out support for rick-roll in their videos today. At blip.tv we feel that content creators are king, and as such insist that the rick-roll advertising format be strictly opt-in. We feel this differentiating factor is key to maintaining a healthy relationship with our amazing user base.
