The Amanda Wiki

We’re all about promoting innovative advertising and the like, so we love that Amanda Congdon is inviting people to work together to script an ad that she will shoot for Dove Cream Oil. Check out the wiki she created to add your ideas.

Starring Amanda Congdon

We are thrilled to announce the debut of Amanda Congdon’s new videoblog “Starring Amanda Congdon.”

We are also excited to announce the show is sponsored by Dove Cream Oil and Paltalk.

This is only the beginning of major advertisers sponsoring videoblogs. We love that show creators can be supported creating content 100% on their own terms. We also love that prescient brands like Dove and Paltalk are tapping into the force, energy, enthusiasm and loyal audiences of videobloggers. Congrats to Amanda, Dove Cream Oil, Paltalk and everyone involved in making this happen. Yee-hah!

Sometimes the magic is in the imperfections

Kathy Sierra asks:

What makes indie films more appealing than so many of the huge Hollywood productions? What makes indie music more interesting than the slick big label big production records?

imperfection function

It’s a Friendly Blip.tv World

Television shows are constantly referencing each other, so why shouldn’t the vlogosphere benefit from cross-pollination publicity as well?

I love the Goodnight Burbank interview of Casey and Rudy from Galacticast. Pure genious!

And it was a wonderful delight to see Freshtopia.net on TreehuggerTV this week.

My mind was boggled at Vloggercon, when Juan Antonio said a character on Chasing Windmills’s next season would be addicted to the show Drinking with Bob.

Why not? I’m not watching TV anymore, either.

Getting the Most Out of blip.tv : Uploading Thumbnails

We are putting a big push behind promoting shows…and would love it if everyone could upload thumbnails that will beautifully show up on the blip.tv show pages. You will find instructions for uploading a thumbnail on your individual show page.

Speaking of which, if you can also upload either a trailer (super cool) or a large photo for your individual show page, that would be super fantastic as well.

For example, if you go to Goodnight Burbank’s page (hi Hayden!), you can see how a trailor looks on the new individual show pages…or G Living is a good example of how a promotional image will work.

Please let us know if you have any questions - we’re around all day and, for better or for worse, much of the weekend, at 917.546.6989. We’ll also respond quickly to anything sent to infoATblip.tv or to the blip user group. Thanks!

Dina

Tag your videos while mobile!

I just added the ability to tag your videos as you upload them from a mobile device. In the body of your e-mail, simply include a line that starts with “tags:” and continues with your tags. Make sure that the e-mail is plain text, and not HTML. This means that, unfortunately, it will not work from Sprint phones unless you’re using a PDA and sending true e-mail instead of Sprint picture mail. Your tagline can look like

tags: dog cat potato

or it can look like

tags: french fry, New York, worst team ever

because if you include commas, each phrase is taken as a tag.

UpperBlip 1.3 released!

I’m pleased to announce that a new version of our desktop upload tool, UpperBlip, has been released. This version incorporates a slew of requests sent in by you, our users, as well as some new features we’ve cooked up ourselves. Here’s a quick list to whet your appetite:

  • Cross-posting and cross-uploading integration, just like with Web-based upload
  • “Apply to all” takes the drudgery out of entering video info
  • Upload summary screen provides links to your new posts on blip.tv
  • Up-front user authentication means no more uploading megs and megs of videos only to find your username or password were wrong!
  • Support for Java 1.4 (that means it’ll run on Mac OS X 10.3 and later)

Here’s a screenshot of UpperBlip running on Mac OS X:

as well as on Windows:

If you’re running the previous release of UpperBlip, it should notify you that a new release is available and take you to the download page if you ask it to. If you’re a new to UpperBlip and want to give it a whirl, you can find it on our upload tools page.

Tom Vilsack on How He’ll Use the Internet

Iowa Governor and Democratic Presidential candidate Tom Vilsack talks about the power of the internet to enable conversation between voters and candidates.

I think videoblogging could have an even bigger impact on the next election than text blogging did in 2004.
