Geek Entertainment TV is Dugg
Digg is huge. They’re one of the biggest sites on the Web. They’re so huge, in fact, that most sites that get linked to from Digg go down. In flames. They simply can’t handle the load.
Geek Entertainment TV posted a couple videos yesterday about Digg 3.0. They include video of Kevin Rose’s demo of Digg’s new features (Kevin Rose is the founder of Digg) and an exclusive interview with Kevin. It was inevitable that at least one of these videos would get Dugged. And one of them did. Check it out:
Geek Entertainment TV hosts all its video on blip.tv. Their videos are available on www.geekentertainment.tv and on blip.tv. The people who Dugg this video chose to link to it on blip.tv. The asummption on Digg was that blip.tv wouldn’t be able to handle the traffic. They posted mirrors, “just in case.” They were wrong.
We’re holding strong at blip. Our servers are handling the incredible amount of traffic — hundreds of thousands of viewers coming all at once to one video — without breaking a sweat. We aren’t breaking a sweat. The video is up, blip.tv is up, everyone’s blip.tv videos are up. We’ve passed the Digg test. Where do we go from here?

P.P.S: I should mention that dealing with the “Digg Effect” did require the application of our high traffic contingency measures. These measures take a few minutes to kick in, but once they kick in they let us scale to the moon. All while keeping our everyday costs low and in line with the revenue we’re taking in.

Thanks for the props Mike. Blip.tv really are the ones who deserve credit here. You guys were there for us when the traffic got intense and you were standing by to eat more. Well more you got. As you may have noticed we got dugg again last night, the interview episode hit the front page sometime late yesterday.
